Lumbini is a holy place where accordingly to Buddhist tradition Lord Buddha was born in 632 B.C. Every day thousands of pilgrims are coming to Lumbini to pray and meditate. The place has a number of temples, many monuments and a museum. Since 1997 it has a status of UNESCO World Heritage.
The main attraction of Lumbini is the Secret Garden (2, 56 s.km) with all the treasures of the historic place. The Ashokan Pillar with the inscription identifying the holy site as the birthplace is located in Secret Garden. Next to the Ashokan Pillar is the Mayadevi Temple with the nativity sculpture. South of the Pillar lies Puskarni – the Secret Pool, where Queen Mayadevi took a holy bath before giving birth to Lord Buddha.
Lumbini as a symbol of world peace has an International Monastic Zone where many countries have constructed temples, monasteries and stupas.
The forest around Lumbini is a home for 200 rare blue bulls and 250 bird species.
